Last month Benefacto held a breakfast event with the law firm DWF to discuss how businesses in Manchester can develop their community investment through volunteering.
We have hopes to expand Benefacto’s volunteering brokerage services into the North West and the breakfast was an opportunity to bring the CSR community in Manchester together to discuss some of the opportunities and challenges companies have experienced when supporting charities through voluntary action.
Many companies in Manchester are already giving their staff time off to volunteer (including one very generous accounting firm that gives 10 days a year!) and there was a lot of energy and enthusiasm in the room to get more people participating and supporting the city’s charities.
Four common challenges particularly stood out: how to build participation, how to create a corporate culture that values volunteering, the practicalities of catering to a diffuse workforce, and giving people easy ways to access volunteering opportunities.
More information about the insights the group contributed can be found here. These are areas that we will plan to cover in more detail in future events, and indeed hope that Benefacto’s employee volunteering services might address very soon!
Many thanks to everyone who attended the event, DWF for hosting, and to our wonderful panel of speakers: Clare Beavan from DWF, Fiona McLoughlin from Mace Group, Heather Blundell from Weber Shandwick and Dianne Quinn from Auto Trader.
We'd love to help you to get more colleagues doing high impact volunteering
